Finishing Well, or Not.
We can’t follow Jesus so that He will do what we want Him to do. We must learn to follow Jesus and learn to do what He wants US to do. So be ready to be rebuked and chastened if you come to Him. But know this: He loves you more than life and knows you and what you need far better than you do.
Taste of Victory
We’ve seen how misplaced fears mess up faith but how walking in the fear of the Lord brings faith, strength and courage. Now we will see how faith, strength and courage in Christ lead us to victorious celebrations.
From Fear to Courage
What is the biblical difference between being cowardly and being courageous? A coward bows to fears, the courageous Christian faces them with faith in God’s strength. How do we develop strength and courage in Christ? That’s what we will see in today’s sermon.
How Our Fears mess with Our Faith
As we begin our Fall campaign with Numbers 13, Previewing the Promised Land, one thing is clear: we must pursue faith over our fears if we would enjoy God’s blessings and receive God’s promises.
God's Plan for His People
God’s Plan for His People
As we initiate out Fall Campaign in small groups, let’s remember where we’ve been and prepare for the next adventure together. From creation to consummation, God is unfolding His plan for us. When we follow Him we discover His best blessings, when we resist we enter darkness and chaos. God desires our blessing, but will punish our rebellion. Nothing could be clearer…
60th Anniversary
If you are visiting with us today, please raise your hand. Thank-you, so much for coming! If you are age 60 or older would you please raise your hand? Thank-you for coming too! In 1955, two years before I was born, this auditorium and the north education wing was built, and Church services began to be held here for the first time. Gordon Mosley was one of the members at…
What makes you mad?
Growing up as a child in the midst of American patriotism during the cold war with Russia, I remember hearing it said by otherwise good Christian people that they wished we would just launch a bunch of our atomic warheads at Russia and blow them off the map. Some would even look at biblical books like Judges to justify their views. During war, or times of upheaval, people…
When God Calls
Join me in a look at Jonah. 2 Kings 14: 23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, became king in Samaria, and reigned forty-one years. 24 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin. 25 He restored the territory of…
Forgiveness & Fathering
Forgiveness & Fathering
1 Peter 4:1-19 (Read) What kind of people offer forgiveness to those who murder their family members? What motivates people to even consider forgiveness towards their enemies? Who has the influential power to cause this kind of response? Do we have that kind of faith? Do you? This week 21 year old Dylan Roof entered a Black African Methodist Episcopal Church and killed 9…
Rich!
The Bible tells us a lot about being rich. Jesus, James and Paul all taught on this subject.
Who are you & what is your life?
Who are you & what is your life?
James helps us humble ourselves before God and walk in the faith we hold. This is nowhere truer than in our words.
How to Submit to God
James explores the symptoms of worldliness, the spiritual condition of worldliness and the escape route from worldliness. What a helpful word from God for us!
Spiritual Speech Therapy
James tells us a lot about the tongue in chapter 3. What kind of dangerous instrument is this? Look and see.
Faith And Love James' Style
Faith And Love James’ Style
James has a lot to tell us about faith. His simple, straight forward message challenges us and instructs us in character building God’s way. This is a summary of some of the things James tells us as we prepare to enter chapter three.
Kingdom Attitudes
Matthew 5:1-5:12 Attitudes that Please God Someone has called Matthew 5:1-12 the “Be” attitudes of the Faith. What’s your attitude toward God? Jesus lists several attitudes here in the first part of the Sermon on the Mount that challenge us all. Actually, they show the way to spiritual maturity in 8 steps. Four are internal and preparational and four are external and…
The Gospel as God Gave it
What is it that really gets you going? What gets your emotions stirred and fills you with a fight or flight mode so that you MUST do something? If you saw someone you love about to be injured or killed would you not warn them? Would you not take immediate action or cry out to them to help them? And what if they didn’t listen to your warning… what if they were under the…
